Individual Membership

Individual Membership of the Institution:

It consists of 8 different membership classifications:
A. Honorary Fellow Member (Hon. FHKITA)
B. Fellow Member (FHKITA)
C. Companion Member
D. Professional Member (MHKITA)
E. Licentiate Member (LHKITA)
F. Graduate Member (GHKITA)
G. Affiliate Member
H. Student Member

Eligibility for Memberships:

Honorary Fellow Member (Hon. FHKITA) Any persons who have not less than 10 years of textile and apparel experience and who in the opinion of the Executive Committee have achieved recognised advancement in science and technology in the textile and apparel or related field. No person shall be eligible for being admitted or transferred as a Honorary Fellow Member unless nomination to Honorary Fellow Membership shall be given by 2 Voting Members to the Executive Committee.

Fellow Member (FHKITA) Any Members who have not less than 10 years of textile and apparel or related working experience and who in the opinion of the Executive Committee have made significant contributions to the Institution and/or textile and apparel industries.

Companion Member Any persons who are holding responsible positions in textile and apparel industry or commercial field, and who hold any non-textile qualifications.

Professional Member (MHKITA) Member shall satisfy any of the following sets of requirements:-

1. Any persons (1) who have not less than 2 years of textile and apparel or related professional experience and (2) who have passed all examinations of the Institution including dissertation;
2. Any persons (1) who have not less than 2 years of textile and apparel or related professional experience or not less than 1 year of textile and apparel or related professional experience after graduation and (2) who hold Honours degree or higher diploma approved by the Institution;
3. Any persons (1) who have not less than 5 years of textile and apparel or related professional experience after graduation, (2) who have completed a diploma program of the Institution and (3) who hold appropriate Honours degree or equivalent qualification relating to textile and apparel; or
4. Any persons (1) who have not less than 10 years of textile and apparel or related professional experience, (2) who have no formal qualification in the field of textile and apparel but (3) who have completed a diploma program of the Institution.

Licentiate Member (LHKITA) Licentiate Member shall satisfy any of the following sets of requirements:-

1. Any persons (1) who have not less than 2 years of textile and apparel or related working experience and (2) who have passed the higher diploma examinations of the Institution;
2. Any persons (1) who have not less than 2 years of textile and apparel or related working experience or not less than 1 year of textile and apparel or related working experience after graduation and (2) who hold Honours degree or higher diploma approved by the Institution;
3. Any persons (1) who have not less than 2 years of textile and apparel or related working experience, (2) who have completed a program designated by the Institution and (3) who hold appropriate Honours degree, higher diploma or equivalent qualification relating to textile and apparel;
4. Any persons (1) who have not less than 5 years of textile and apparel or related working experience, (2) who have completed a program designated by the Institution and (3) who hold a certificate or diploma approved by the Institution; or
5. Any persons (1) who have not less than 10 years of textile and apparel or related working experience, (2) who have no formal qualification in the field of textile and apparel but (3) who have completed a program designated by the Institution.

Graduate Member (GHKITA) Any persons who are fresh graduates and who hold Honours degree or equivalent qualification relating to textile and apparel.

Affiliate Member Any persons who are or have been attendants of courses relating to textile and apparel or who are working in the textile and apparel industry.

Student Member Any present students who are taking degree courses or equivalent relating to textile and apparel.

**The Articles of Association (“AoA”) of the Hong Kong Institution of Textile and Apparel Limited was amended on 8th July 2017. For the previous version of eligibility for various memberships according to the 1993 version of AoA (which has already been replaced by the new one), please check here for information.

Individual Membership Renewal Deadline and Re-application Procedure

To renew the annual membership subscription (which runs from 1 April of current year to 31 March of the immediate following year), annual members must settle the payment of annual subscription fee no later than 30 June in each current year. Those who fail to settle the fee before the said date will be taken to have resigned and the membership will be terminated.

Any resigned/ terminated member can re-apply for the membership by the following steps:

1. Complete a new application form with below documents:
   • A letter of self-declaration in writing with the expired member no. to indicate your identity of resigned/ terminated member of the Association**
   • Cheque of the non-refundable administrative fee for re-entry (please refer to below table)

• • Cheque of the annual subscription fee/ life membership fee (please refer to p.2 of application form)

2. Email to info@hkita.org and indicate that the documents will be submitted for membership re-application
3. Mail the form and documents to the address provided by info@hkita.org once ready (Please indicate “HKITA Membership Application” on the envelope and your name on the back of your document(s) for identification)
4. Upon receiving the completed application, it will be reviewed by the membership committee. If the membership is approved, the membership will only be effective after the application approval and receipt of all above mentioned fees. The membership join date will be re-counted as the effective date of re-entry and the approved member will be assigned with a new member number.

**If applicant does not declare his/her identity as our resigned/ terminated member, the application will be treated as a new one. Applicant must provide completed membership application form with academic and work experience supporting documents as well as cheques of entrance fee (i.e. HK$100) and annual subscription fee/ life membership fee.
